| GENERAL INFORMATION, SAFETY & QUALITY OIL SAFETY Always read the instructions on the bottle. Always consult a suitable book before using new essential oil. Remember that any essential oil or fragrant oil, particularly citrus type oils can irritate some skin types if worn in strong sunlight. Remember that oils in general including essential and fragrant oils can damage some types of plastic and rubber. If you use oils in the bath, dilute first. This is essential if you are bathing babies or young children. Many oils can be harmful if used in certain conditions, i.e. if you are pregnant, with epilepsy, sensitive skin etc, however, other oils may be of great help. Therefore, always consult a book or talk to a qualified aromatherapist. CANDLE SAFETY Never leave a lighted candle unattended. Only use proper nightlights in candle powered oil vaporisers and use an oil water mixture on top. Do not allow them to burn dry. Always trim all candle wicks to 3 or 4mm before lighting. ESSENTIAL OILS & ABSOLUTES. Pure essential oils are obtained from plant material by steam distillation or by pressing. Concretes are made by extracting the plant material with organic solvents. After the solvents have been carefully distilled off, a thick paste remains. Absolutes are made by removing the waxes that make the concretes so viscous. Rose Maroc is an absolute and thus retains much of the red colour of the rose. Rose Otto is steam distilled and hence is a essential oil technically speaking. THE CHAMOMILES Three are available. The comparatively inexpensive Maroc, the Roman and the rather expensive Matricaria, sometimes called 'blue' or 'German', although it rarely comes from there nowadays. If the book does not specify which type of Chamomile to use, then the Roman type is the oil of choice for most purposes. MELISSA True Melissa is available in the speciality oils section, it is quite expensive, also available is a cheaper Melissa Blend, this oil is made up of fractions taken from other oils including Lemongrass & Citronella to give a close approximation to the composition of the whole oil. NEROLI The Neroli oil/absolute consists of two thirds distilled Neroli blossom and one third absolute extracted Neroli blossom. This is because the neat absolute has a harsh off note on its own, but it softens down well in Neroli oil to give a much more agreeable bouquet. The Neroli Light is recovered from water distillation by a new process and then sharpened up with other natural citrus distillates to give a very good approximation to Neroli blossom essential oil but at a much lower price. SANDALWOOD. The Indian Sandalwood Mysore is available and the less expensive Haitian Sandalwood Amyris that has a bouquet somewhere between Mysore & Cedarwood. If the book does not specify, then the Mysore is indicated. We have now added Sandalwood Australian which is practically indistinguishable from the Mysore but lower in price. THE LAVENDERS There are several available including an absolute. They were chose from amongst many varieties of Lavenders extracted from different processes to give the connoisseur a choice of the most interesting & exotic. However, the standard Lavender has proved most popular with excellent results. QUALITY All the carrier and vegetable oils are cold compressed, where appropriate. The pure essential oils are all tested by H.P.G.L.C (High Performance Gas Liquid Chromatograph). This is to ensure that the oils are pure, unadulterated and pesticide free. The creams, balms, gets and body lotions are all vegetable based, hypo allergenic and contain no animal products. However, a few of the creams do contain beeswax. |
